Frankie (Frances) and Jo (Joanne) are co-owner Autumn’s late grandmothers. They were both so influential in her life that she wanted to dedicate and remember them in this way.
Our first scoop shop opened in November 2016 in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle!
We believe the term 'ice cream' is not limited to being made with dairy from an animal, and that plant-based ice cream is a force for good — inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds in creative ways to eat more plants.
Being certified as a B-Corp means holding our company accountable to our goals for sustainability, climate change, organic practices, supply chain practices, and tending to our team and community.
The answer to this question has many parts.
First and foremost, our ingredients and process set us apart. We love traditions of slow, simple, and nutritious food and also really, really appreciate a satisfying sweet treat. For us, it is vital that we create an ice cream made from the purest ingredients and process them minimally, highlighting their beauty and protecting their integrity by keeping our ingredients list short, bringing out their natural flavors, and never adding gums or other stabilizers to our ice cream.
Secondly, all of our milks and bases are made daily in our Seattle kitchen. If we are using oat or nut milk in the recipe, you can trust it has been made from just filtered water and either organic, gluten-free oats or sprouted nuts. And in order to make the most delicious, nutritious, and fresh-tasting ice cream, we’ve found the only way is to make our milk from scratch and churn the ice cream immediately thereafter.
Lastly (but not least!), many flavors of our ice cream are sweetened exclusively with whole foods or alternative sugars such as Medjool dates, maple, and coconut sugar. Some of our most prized recipes are composed of just our milks, dates, and a flavor component such as organic cocoa or Mexican vanilla. In recipes that require a neutral flavor, we use organic cane sugar, as we believe it to be a healthy and great sugar in moderation.
We use ingredients that come only from plants, which means we are 100% vegan.
It is a goal and dream of ours to open scoop shops and be in grocery stores along the West Coast!
We are flattered but we do not franchise at this time.
Radically shifting the way you think about ice cream goes beyond a single scoop. Our commitment to changing minds begins with focusing on equitable actions, inclusive practices, and fostering diversity. We are innovators and creators of magic who aim to empower and celebrate voices and stories from all backgrounds in pursuit of deeper connections. At Frankie & Jo’s, everyone is welcome.
